About 1885 Charles G. (Charlie)
Adams, a rancher and merchant from Fort McKavett, settled on
four sections of land two miles north of Winkler's Well (later
Wentworth). He named the site Sonora, after a family servant
from Sonora, Mexico, in 1887 and drilled a well in 1889, the
year the community received a post office.

Located in Sonora at the end of N. Concho Ave., peace and
tranquility awaits you at the wonderful Community Prayer
Garden. Built by the loving people of this town and with the
funding assistance of many local businesses.

The Caverns of Sonora is located 8 miles west of Sonora,
Texas, off of IH-10 on exit 392. Come experience the
beauty that west Texas has to offer. At the Caverns of Sonora,
there are many activities to keep you busy, such as: Sluicing
for gems, exploring the nature trail, camping out in an RV or
tent, and relaxing while enjoying the outdoors.
Surety Title Company proudly serves Sutton County and strives to
provide fast, efficient and accurate service for their
