The 1924 Mitchell County Courthouse

Mitchell County Courthouse: c. 1924 is a dignified brick
Classical Revival building. A surveyor's mistake caused the
courthouse of 1883 to built on Oak Street instead of facing Oak
Street. The correction was made by simply demolishing the
building and building another.

Lake Colorado City State Park is a 500-acre park, leased for 99
years from a utility company in Mitchell County, southwest of
Colorado City. It was acquired in 1971 and was opened in 1972.

Colorado City is the oldest established town between Weatherford
and El Paso. The name comes from it's location on the Colorado
River. 1880s: The Texas & Pacific Railroad arrives, the town
becomes the county seat and gets a post office - all in 1881.
"Pete" Snyder, namesake of the Scurry County seat does a brisk
business in Colorado City.
